Software Development Team Lead
We are looking for a self-motivated and passionate Software Development Team Lead to join our Global Platform Organization team in Alphen aan de Rijn to drive the delivery of advanced digital solutions.

In this role, you will oversee a small team of (offshore) developers and quality engineers operating in an Agile environment to facilitate the enrichment of content and its integration across heterogeneous applications. Furthermore, you will work with product managers, product solutions and others to identify areas where improvements to existing solutions are needed as well as identifying new solution to drive user value. This is a hands-on position, which requires the qualified candidate to design and demonstrate the viability of a solution.

Tasks and responsibilities
A successful candidate will be highly technical with an established background in developing high volume and highly available services, great communication skills, ability to shape the structure and grow the skills of their team, and motivated to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment. The Software Development Team Lead should be willing to take on challenges of unknown dimensions across different domains, and work hand in hand with subject matter expert, product leaders, customers, and developers. Other responsibilities include:
  • Develop and document software designs that emphasize usefulness/usability, stability, performance, and reusability
  • Specify and lead the development of and timely delivery of services to support content integration.
  • Work to continually improve the efficiency of the software development environment and process.
  • Work effectively with the System Operation / Quality Assurance groups to ensure quality software releases.
  • Recruit and manage a team of software engineers in an agile environment. The team mostly consists of contract developers working remotely
  • Engage with other groups to understand the needs of businesses and the customer to identify technologies that expand
  • Articulate project status to other project members and management.
  • Work closely with other technology groups in the organization to support knowledge transfer and facilitate participation of the teams in driving user focused innovation.
  • Monitor trends in strategic technologies relevant now or in the future that will influence the solutions at Wolters Kluwer.

Your profile
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or equivalent in engineering or computer science

  • At least 5 years’ experience with designing and developing applications
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a technical position managing and working directly with an (offshore) team of software developers, particularly in an Agile development environment
  • Related experience in one or more of search, content enrichment, text analytics and other semantic technologies, artificial intelligence, data mining or digital publishing is desirable
  • Proactively personality with an eagerness to learn.
